Last 2012 related post!

In November, one of my bestest friends came to visit me in NYC. It was his first trip to NYC ever, so we did a lot of tourist-y things. The first few photos are from Top of the Rock. Now that I have been to the top of Rock Center and the top of the Empire State Building, I must say, the view and whole experience of Top of the Rock is way better. We ate at Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem. We wandered around the LES, stopping at Katz Del, Il Laboratorio del Gelato, and Caffe Vita. We rode the Staten Island Ferry, hung out at a hookah bar in my neighborhood, and lastly, checked out the sculpture on display at Madison Square Park. I mean, we did a lot more than that too, but these are the highlights of his 5 day trip.

Pumpkin Caramel Delight cake, made by yours truly.

Montreal, QC, Canada: Day 3

In spite of threats of rain, we headed to Parc du Mont Royal, which was designed by the same guy as Central Park. We climbed to the top of the mountain/hill to see the Chalet at the top where you can look over the city of Montreal. Buildings there aren’t allowed to be any taller than the mountain, fyi.

After our hike in the park, we got a little lost and eventually made our way back to the hotel. On the concierge’s recommendation, we tried a delicious Thai place nearby. Afterwards, we attempted to go on a tour of downtown but it started raining, so we only saw a few of the landmarks. Once the rain died down we headed to Rue Crescent, which is a known as a touristy area, but we grabbed a drink at a pub with a terrace anyway. Eddie and I were both pretty tired by then, so we called it quits for the day.

Birthday Brunch:

My friend, Will, told me about the documentary I Like Killing Flies, about shop owner Kenny Shopsin. I watched it over a year about, and on Saturday Eddie and I finally went to Shopsin’s General store in the Essex Market. It was everything I wanted it to be. Our food was delicious. We got to see Kenny and his family in action. My dish is the Capt’n J #2 and Eddie got the Che Blisters On My Sisters.

Saturday night, Eddie took me to see Nice Work If You Can Get It on Broadway. :) It was wonderful.

Sunday (Food) Funday

I went to a Gumbo Cook Off at Jimmy’s No. 43. It was very crowded, but I’m glad I went. Most of the gumbos were mediocre, but a few were superb. On my way home I tried the Artopolis bakery. I got baklava, a dulce de leche tart, and a mini tiramisu. I’ve already eaten it all.

Saturday night, Megan and I adventured down the block to Queens Comfort. I’d been wanting to try this place for awhile, and I’m glad I did. Now I know where to go when I really want to unleash my inner fattie. What I Ate: Fried Pork Chop Sandwich

Waffle House: the one thing I miss the most when I’m in NYC.

Feast of San Gennaro: On Monday I walked around this ginormous street festival in Little Italy with my friend Elizabeth. I ate a tasty (but messy) Italian sausage sub and some cannolis (pistachio, original & cappuccino flavored).
